ApeCoin (APE)

ApeCoin, or APE, is a crypto asset representing a project and community focused on using blockchain technology for cultural advancement. It is an ERC-20 token, meaning it is based on the Ethereum blockchain, and a portion of its supply was distributed to certain nonfungible token (NFT) holders in the first half of 2022. APE launched in March 2022, and holders of Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) and Mutant Ape Yacht Club (MAYC) NFTs could claim a certain amount of APE tokens based on which and how many of these NFTs they held. Holding a BAYC NFT entitles the holder to more APE than holding a MAYC NFT. Additionally, owning a Bored Ape Kennel Club (BAKC) NFT in conjunction with a BAYC or MAYC NFT affected the amount of APE the holder could claim.

A decentralized autonomous organization leads the ApeCoin ecosystem (DAO) called the ApeCoin DAO. APE holders can become members of the DAO and have a say in ecosystem matters. The APE Foundation also supports the ApeCoin ecosystem and carries out actions decided upon by the ApeCoin DAO. The ApeCoin project claims that APE has a capped supply of 1 billion, and there is no ability to create additional APE tokens or burn existing ones. The total amount of APE that NFT holders could claim was 15% of the 1 billion supply. APE is available on various well-known crypto exchanges.
